The land surrounding the La Fraschetta country house is beautifully typical of the central Italian area, and in fact the zone defined by Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany, known as Tuscia, is steeped in history, culture, natural beauty and remarkable architecture.
Tuscia, which derives its name from the Etruscan population, is characterised by sea, lakes, hills and mountains making the area absolutely one of its kind. There are numerous old town centres to visit and also nature reserves and protected parks.
The La Fraschetta country house, in the heart of Tuscia, is the ideal place for anyone wanting to include the great art cities such as Rome, Siena, Perugia and Florence, in their itinerary. All these places are within a 100 km. radius of the country house but there are other towns such as Viterbo (30 km. from Bolsena) which are much nearer and where a great day can be had bathing in warm sulphuric waters; free in the middle of the countryside, or paying for a more comfortable experience.
For nature and sport lovers, Bolsena is the site of a famed sailing club which houses an underwater diving centre and school. There are cycle routes in the town centre and out in the countryside too; in the nature reserve of Turona for example. There are tennis courts and a football pitch right next to the newly constructed sports’ centre.
For an unforgettable outing it is possible to visit the stunning islands of Bisentina and Martana thanks to the ferry boats that leave the city port every day, all summer long.
Bolsena is also the perfect place for people who enjoy visiting museums and seeing architectural works. Since it was an Etruscan village it still conserves evidence of that period together with traces of previous, even more ancient times, all of which are carefully kept in the splendid, fairytale like Monaldeschi castle. The castle can be found at the highest point of the town, facing towards the lake and presenting the visitor with an utterly unforgettable view.
Bolsena is also known as the town of miracles and it is possible to visit the church of the patron saint, Saint Catherine, where a holy stone is kept in custody along with the remains of the saint herself; the church catacombs can also be visited.
